POPULARITY
HOW POPULAR YOU WERE IN HIGH SCHOOL STILL AFFECTS YOU TODAY
Although we don't talk much about antiquated psychological concepts like id,ego, superego and unconscious any more we do know that there are plenty of actions we take without thinking - feelings that seem to bubble up out of no where and ways we react to life just seem to be part of our personality.Today we understand that these automatic behaviors, feelings and thought are related to specific part of our brain.
Try testing yourself what is easier to remember. If you're like most people you probably have far more richer memories of popular kids than anyone else in adolescence. Its not a matter of nostalgia - its as if those teenage experiences seem far more recent than they actually are, and far more salient and impactful today than they should be.
Adolescent memories can affect us in many powerful ways - specifically by creating biases in what we see, what we think and what we do.

DeleteThe whole high school popularity takes a huge toll on ones self esteem. Other people believe that if you have one friend, then you not good enough for them to talk to you cause you boring. They don't realise the drama you automatically avoid when you not in the popular squad.
ReplyDeleteI just can't disagree. We do that every time like most of our actions are just not thought through we just ACT. We don't even think or consider other peoples' feelings if might say.
